Overview
Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad (MNLU Aurangabad), in Aurangabad, also known as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, is the third of Maharashtra's three National Law Universities and the 21st NLU in the country. Established under the Maharashtra National Law University Act, 2014, it began functioning in 2017, admits students through CLAT, and sits on a 50-acre green campus. MNLU Aurangabad is distinctive for its multidisciplinary spread, combining law with management and public policy, and for its small, focused intake. This profile covers its ranking, courses, eligibility, admission, seats, cutoff, fees, hostel, scholarships and placements.
Ranking and reputation of MNLU Aurangabad
MNLU Aurangabad is one of the newer NLUs, the 21st established, and did not feature in the NIRF 2025 top 40 law list, so it is best judged on its NLU status, multidisciplinary offering and growing outcomes rather than a NIRF number. As one of Maharashtra's three NLUs, it holds a clear regional position and draws a steady applicant pool. Its blend of law, management and public policy programmes gives it a distinctive academic identity among the newer NLUs.
Courses offered at MNLU Aurangabad
MNLU Aurangabad offers two five-year integrated undergraduate law degrees admitted through CLAT: the BA LLB (Hons) and a BBA LLB (Hons). Reflecting its multidisciplinary focus, it also runs an LLM, an MBA, an MA in Public Policy, PG Diploma, PhD and LLD programmes. Most CLAT aspirants target the BA LLB, which is the focus of the sections below unless stated otherwise.
MNLU Aurangabad eligibility criteria
For the BA LLB (Hons) and BBA LLB (Hons), you must have passed class 12 or an equivalent examination with at least 45 percent marks, or 40 percent for candidates in the SC and ST categories. Candidates awaiting their class 12 results may apply and appear for CLAT, subject to meeting the requirement at admission, and there is no upper age limit. For the LLM, you need an LLB degree with at least 50 percent marks, or 45 percent for SC and ST candidates.
MNLU Aurangabad admission process and how to apply
MNLU Aurangabad admits students to the BA LLB and BBA LLB through CLAT, run by the Consortium of National Law Universities, and to the LLM through CLAT PG. Register for CLAT on the Consortium website during the application window, appear for the exam, and after results take part in the centralised CLAT counselling, placing MNLU Aurangabad high in your preference order. Maharashtra home-state candidates should claim the domicile quota with the required documents. If a seat is allotted, you report to the campus for document verification and fee payment. The MBA is admitted through the MNLUA Common Admission Test and PhD through the MNLUA PhD Entrance Test.
MNLU Aurangabad seats and reservation
MNLU Aurangabad has a small intake of about 60 seats in the BA LLB (Hons), with a total intake across all programmes of up to about 192. A large share of seats is reserved for Maharashtra home-state candidates, with the remainder open to all-India applicants, and seats are further reserved vertically for the SC, ST, OBC and EWS categories, with horizontal reservation for persons with disabilities. The heavy home-state quota makes Maharashtra domicile seats close at more relaxed ranks than the all-India list.

In the general all-India category, its BA LLB (Hons) closed at around rank 1573 in CLAT 2026 round three, with the BBA LLB closing higher at around 1820, and the general range across its courses sat roughly between 1424 and 2509.
